Announcing the Child Rights Foundation
I am pleased to announce the launch of The Child Rights Foundation. We are in our very early stages. I wanted to make this announcement to underscore the gravity of abuse, neglect, and abandonment of a child by his or her parents, and subsequent failures by other entities organized to protect these vulnerable children. With that, we must change our laws to protect them.
Dr. Robert Anda, co-leader of the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study (ACES), the largest and most comprehensive study ever undertaken on the effects of child maltreatment deemed it “Our nation’s gravest and greatest health crisis.”
Why gravest? What can be more confusing, insidious, and damaging than the person who was supposed to, by nature, protect, care for, nurture — how deeply a child suffers when that person is the cause of the abuse and neglect?
Why greatest? The cost in terms of dollars is $2 trillion (NIH, 2015) per year, three times the cost of our national defense budget.
The issue is so enormous and harrowing that we hardly hear about it, though five children die in the United States each day do to abuse and neglect (CDC, 2019).
Child Rights Foundation will feature news on issues all adults must learn about, those happening mostly around the U.S., but also globally.
Because these children need us. They need help. And there IS something we can do to help.
Stay tuned to the work of the Child Right Foundation.
